Motorist who caused Fife smash was unfit to drive
A 24-year-old man’s dangerous driving on Fife roads resulted in a collision with another vehicle.
The female driver of the car was injured and both vehicles were badly damaged in the crash caused by Patrick Philbin.
He was unfit to drive through drink and drugs at the time, resulting an appearance in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
Philbin, of Kinross, admitted that on 21st May last year in High Street, Cowdenbeath, and the A909 Cowdenbeath-Kelty road he drove a van dangerously.
He repeatedly swerved into the opposing carriageway causing other road users to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
He mounted a pavement, approached a corner at excessive speed, drove into the opposing carriageway and collided with another vehicle being driven by a female, whereby both vehicles were extensively damaged and he and the woman were both injured.
He also admitted that he drove on the A909 Cowdenbeath to Kelty road whilst unfit to do so through drink or drugs.
Sheriff Chris Shead called for reports and Philbin will be sentenced on 19th April.
Philbin is currently serving a jail sentence imposed at Perth in February for another offence.
