NEGLECTED CHILD (3) FELL OUT OF WINDOW AT FIFE FLATS

A neglected toddler. living in squalor, fell out of a window at a Dunfermline tower-block.

Fortunately, the child survived the fall from the first-storey property at the Broomhead high-rise flats.

Kelly Debruijn, 31, of Broomhead Drive, today appeared in the dock Dunfermline Sheriff Court and admitted child neglect.

Between 27th July and 12th August last year at her home she wilfully neglected a child in her care, then aged three.

She caused the girl to live in cluttered and unhygienic conditions and in a home with fly infestation.

She failed to provide her with clean and adequate bedding and food.

She left her unsupervised with a first-floor window open and thereby caused the child to climb up to the window and fall out on to the ground below.

Debruijn, who was representing herself, told the court that there had been social work involvement and the child has now been adopted by another family.

Sheriff Neil Bowie called for reports and Debruijn will be sentenced on 6th December.
