Drunk is jailed after falling out with his own reflection
A Fife man was so drunk that he began arguing with his own reflection in Dunfermline High Street.
Christopher Guild became angry, apparently thinking somebody was staring at him from a parked van.
Sozzled Guild hurled his wine bottle at the van, smashing the window and has been jailed.
Guild (33), of Robert Smith Court, Lumphinnans, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
He admitted that on 22nd August at High Street, Dunfermline, he damaged property by throwing a glass bottle at the window of a vehicle.
He also admitted failing to appear for a court hearing on 12th September.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said a Ford Transit had been parked in the High Street at 3pm, as it was needing repairs.
At 3.40pm, Guild was seen standing opposite the van. “He shouted, ‘That thing is f****** looking at me’ as he looked at his own reflection,” added the depute.
“He was holding a glass wine bottle and threw it, causing the window to smash.” The damage cost £150 to repair.
Defence solicitor James McMackin said, “He admits he had been drinking all morning and was in quite a state of intoxication. He doesn’t remember shouting at his own reflection.
“It has to be conceded that he has an unenviable record.”
Sheriff Charles MacNair told Guild, “You were extremely drunk that day and threw a bottle at a van.
“This was apparently because you couldn’t recognise yourself in the window as you were so drunk.
“You also have a woeful record for compliance with court orders.”
The sheriff jailed Guild for 105 days.
Guild is a well-known face in the High Street having previously sold the Big Issue there.
