Fire started by woman at yard caused £4000 damage

A Fife woman started a blaze at a local business causing £4000 worth of damage.

Dawn Frail was said to be suffering from depression when she set fire to pallets in a yard.

Frail (40), of Shore Street, Buckhaven, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

She previously admitted that on 18th May at Naylor Drainage, Cowley Street, Methil, she wilfully set fire to a quantity of pallets whereby the fire took hold, causing damage.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner told the court that at 9pm a workshop employee looked out a window and saw black smoke coming from pallets.

He went outside and extinguished the blaze. He noticed pallets had been moved in the yard and then heard a noise at the entrance to the works where he saw Frail.

Police were contacted and CCTV images showed Frail in the premises and going into the area where the fire started.

Sheriff Kevin Veal imposed a one-year restriction of liberty order.
