Fife man fined for kicking hedgehog

A 20-year-old man has been fined for kicking a hedgehog in a Dunfermline street.

The incident happened on 28th August in St Margaret Street at around 4am when Noel Taylor was walking with friends after a night out.

They decided it would be a good idea to start kicking a hedgehog and were spotted on CCTV. Police were called to scene and found the hedgehog had been killed by the thugs.

Taylor, of Old Kirk Road, Dunfermline, acting with others, kicked a hedgehog with intent to inflict unnecessary suffering to it contrary to the Wild Mammals Protection Act.

Sentence on Taylor had been deferred for good behaviour at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

When he returned for sentencing, Sheriff Richard McFarlane fined him £300.
