FIFE ROAD RAGE NUT WAS ON THE RUN FROM ROMANIAN JAIL

A 30-YEAR-OLD Romanian, on the run from a jail sentence in his home country, drove his car at a cyclist in a road rage incident in Limekilns.

Gruti Lingurar was irate about being held up and after a heated verbal exchange, he turned his car around and drove at speed towards the cyclist only narrowly missing him.

Dashcam of the incident was shown at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

In the dock accompanied by a Romanian translator was Lingurar, of Prospecthill Place, Glasgow.

He admitted that on 2nd January at Dunfermline Road, Limekilns, he drove a car dangerously by failing to keep a safe distance from a bicycle in front of him.

He then drove his car towards him on the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing with him.

Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said Lingurar had driven right up behind of the cyclist ahead of a blind summit.

The cyclist was so concerned about the driving that he pulled over to the side of the road to let the car past and words were exchanged.

This was shown on the dashcam footage as was Lingurar turning his car around and driving at the cyclist.

When Sheriff Wyllie Robertson asked why Lingurar was currently being held in custody, he was initially told that it was relating to his “status” and him having “no permission to be here”.

The sheriff was unconvinced by this and the case was delayed while further inquiries were made.

It then emerged that the reason Lingurar was behind bars was that the Romanian authorities were seeking his extradition to serve a jail sentence of one year and seven months.

This was imposed for two charges of driving without a licence and another of using forged documents.

His next extradition hearing will be on 12th June.

The court was told that Lingurar has been working at a car wash during his time in Scotland.

For the Limekilns incident, Lingurar was given a 28-day jail sentence.
