“NO-ONE’S DOING A THING ABOUT IT”: ORDEAL OF OAP (91) AT BUS STATION INFESTED WITH “FERAL” YOUTHS

A 91-year-old woman suffered a harrowing experience at Glenrothes bus station just days before a grandmother was attacked there.

The woman’s son has contacted us to tell us what happened when his mum simply tried to get on a bus home in the middle of the afternoon.

In this incident there was typical anti-social behaviour from the neds who hang about there but also from a woman in her 40s or 50s who punched a man after an argument.

The son says, “I am writing to you to tell you about an experience my 91-year-old mum had at Glenrothes Bus Station last week.

“Glenrothes Bus Station is one of the most dangerous places in the town and the police need to step up their patrols and actually take some action.

“My mum walked to the town centre which is 1.5 miles. She still enjoys walking one way.

“Once she had finished visiting the bank etc she headed to get her bus back to Balgeddie. As she approached the stand at roughly 3pm there was a group of youths rapping.

“One youth was leading with the others joining in and every 2nd word was F’ing this and that.

“It was loud and mum managed to get a little seat and tried to ignore the incessant chanting and swearing.

“A woman in her 40’s or 50’s appeared and started remonstrating with the youths. The language between them was disgusting and an elderly gentleman at the front of the queue said something to the lady.

“She instantly turned on him and started screaming at him in his face.

“He began to get upset then my mum watched as the lady punched the elderly man in the face.

“My mum could not believe what she was seeing. By this stage she was cold and tired and just wanted to get on the bus.

“The bus driver finally let them on and my mum noticed that the lady who punched the man got on and sat down the front of the bus.

“Five minutes passed and then two police officers walked on the bus and spoke to the lady down the front.

“They then turned to the full bus and told everyone to get off as they needed to interview the woman. My mum and another elderly man sat where they were.

“The last thing my mum needed was to get off the bus back into the cold to listen to those youths again.

“She said the police officer ‘I’m and elderly lady, why should I go back out into the cold?’

“ This had no effect and she had to get off. The police eventually got off the bus and asked who witnessed the lady punching the man so my mum said she did and they took her details.

“The bus driver then turned to everyone waiting and said this service is now cancelled !! My mum couldn’t believe it so she headed to taxi rank. By now it was getting dark and there were no taxis at the rank.

“As she went back to the bus station to catch the Leslie bus, she approached the bus and the driver shut the doors and drove off.

“She then made the decision to walk the 1.5 miles home along the road which goes past the town park in the dark. She was very cold and tired.

“My mum is not a drinker but when she got home she poured a large brandy to calm her nerves.

“I live in Dunfermline and mum has regularly taken the bus through from Glenrothes but on Monday she felt she would be happier for us to come to her.

“My mum’s confidence has been knocked following last week’s bus station debacle.

“It’s so sad to see how the town is turning out these days. Someone needs to get a grip of this and action needs to be taken to make it a safer place for the elderly. These youths have no respect and no morales. They are feral and no one is doing a thing about it.”
