FIFE PAEDO WHO POSES “ENORMOUS” RISK IS BACK BEHIND BARS

A sick paedophile, previously jailed after being caught with a large stash of indecent child images, is back behind bars after offending again.

Archibald Smith posted vile comments about abusing a young girl to a woman on the internet and she was so horrified that she contacted the police.

Smith, 38, of Ramsay Lane, Kincardine, was previously jailed for 44 months in 2018 at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

Smith, who previously lived in Methil, was back at the same court today (Tuesday) for his latest offence.

He admitted that on 18th August 2022 he sent electronic messages to a woman in which he made sexual remarks about children and sent an image of a children.

Depute fiscal Sarah Smith said that the woman had met Smith online and had exchanged messages for a short time.

Smith sent a photo of young girl aged three to five years and said it was his daughter.

He then made a comment about performing a sex act on the child.

The woman initially thought the sexual comments were aimed at her but it gradually dawned on her that he was talking about the child.

When she realised what he was posting about she replied, “You’re a f****** paedo. Sick as f***”. She then contacted the police.

Defence solicitor David Bell said, “He lives alone and doesn’t have a daughter. The photo was of a stranger just taken from the internet.

“He recognises there is clearly a problem here.”

Sheriff John MacRitchie said that on the face of it, Smith presented an “enormous” risk of offending again.

He called for reports and Smith was remanded in custody until sentencing on 19th May.

Smith is already on the sex offenders register for his previous convictions.

Smith was jailed for 44 months in 2018 but released early on licence in July 2020. The licence was then revoked and he was sent back to jail to serve the rest of the sentence.

He was released from jail in May 2022 and offended again three months later.
