FIFE CARE HOME RESPONDS AFTER SHOCKING ASSAULTS ON ELDERLY RESIDENT

A Fife care home, where an elderly resident was sexually assaulted, says it has changed its management team and improved staff training since the incident.

The victim was an 82-year-old woman who has since died.

Her son Craig Leiper, from Inverkeithing, will be sentenced later this month after yesterday’s conviction at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Various incidents of inappropriate touching were witnessed by staff, a visitor and church minister during a service at Henderson House in Dalgety Bay.

No-one directly intervened at the time but their concerns led to the police being contacted.

Today, a spokesperson for Henderson House said, “The health and safety of our residents is our absolute priority and we take all concerns relating to the wellbeing of those in our care extremely seriously.

“We are aware of current court proceedings related to a former resident at Henderson House and can confirm that following the incident, we undertook a full investigation which resulted in a change to our management team and enhanced training in adult protection and incident reporting for our colleagues.

“We remain committed to providing the highest standards of care for our residents and are confident that the measures implemented since have further strengthened our safeguarding, oversight and reporting procedures.”
